Big and bold is the motto in jewelry just now - costume as well as fine jewelry. The bigger the better. Per fashion articles recently, the more jewelry you're wearing the better. Many designers are creating larger, more colorful pieces to meet the demand.
Loris Abate, an Italian jewelry designer founded the Mila Schön label along with Mila Nutrizio Schön in 1960. The label is critically acclaimed and best known for fabrics, ties, scarves, and accessories as well as a line of perfume. It seems that the focus has been primarily on fabrics and ties as there is not many jewelry pieces to be found. I believe that these earrings are quite rare and not something you will see again.
These fine quality tribal style earrings beautifully show the basse-taille effect of transparent enamel over bright gold-toned metal that has been chased or textured allowing light to reflect off the metal underneath the enamel. The snake skin design is striking.
The colors are quite bold as well. The bronzey transparent enamel with dark slashes on the "skin" make the look more real.
The earrings measure 2" high and 1 1/2" wide. They are signed MILA SCHÖN MADE IN ITALY on the back. The clips are mounted in the center so that the earrings covers a portion of your ear as well as your lobe dropping down a bit. They are in excellent condition.
