This vintage multi-strand torsade necklace from Gerda Lyngaard of Monies combines coconut shell beads with carved bone, horn, and a gemstone disk pendant—which is removable!
The necklace has ten strands of light tan coconut shell round beads, each about ¼” wide. You can wear them loosely draped for a length of about 20 ½” or twisted in a torsade style.
The pendant has a pattern of lighter spots in a mesh formation; I believe it is a type of jasper or agate. Five strands of smoothly carved bone beads act as the bail for the disk—which you can wear on another necklace, scarf or cord of your choice.
The pendant measures 2 3/8” in diameter, 3/8” thick at the lower edge, and height with the bone beads on the necklace is about 3”. The carved dark horn clasp has very a dark espresso color and high sheen.
The necklace is not marked—some of Monies pieces had hang-tags, this may have been one of those. The bead stringing, carved clasp and bail technique are all quite characteristic of Monies.
Condition is very fine with no damage. As we lovers of Monies jewelry know—you will not go unnoticed in this finely handcrafted piece!
