This Zuni sterling silver cross is inlaid with natural coral and signed by G&L Leekity. The cross is just under 3” in height and nearly 2” wide.
Each arm of the cross terminates in a flared three-petal design called Fleurie or Lily. The coral is polished smooth and bezel set in large needlepoint style.
On the back of the cast silver cross is “G&L Leekity.” The sterling rope necklace is 31 ½” long and has a spring-ring clasp stamped “Sterling.” Condition is very fine.
Lupeta Leekity is the daughter of Horace and Lupe Iule. Leekity and her husband, George, carry on her father's casting tradition who learned the art from him. Known for his mastery of silver-casting, Horace Iule was one of the first Zunis to produce the mythological Knife-Wing figure in silver. He is best known today for his castwork crosses which the Leekitys have reissued along with creating their own original designs. Jewelry made by George & Lupeta Leekity is in the collections of several museums and is collected by those who appreciate fine Zuni silver work.
