This vintage Japanese damascened butterfly or moth pendant is inlaid with silver and 24K gold.
The butterfly measures 1 7/16" wide and the three-part pendant of disk, butterfly, and bar is 2 3/8" high.
The design includes mountain tops, most likely the tallest is Mount Fuji, huts, clouds and a small bird. The disk has three moths/butterflies and the slim bar beneath the butterfly has tiny flower inlays. The reverse of the pendant is entirely gold-plated. "K24" is stamped on the front.
The gold-plated curb link chain is 18" long with a flower-pierced fold-over hook clasp. Condition is very fine.
Though often referred to as Shakudo, this technique is actually an form of damascene inlay. Shakudo is actually the gold/copper bullion which is used as the base for the decorative effects.
