These antique Georgian/ Victorian earrings are made of faceted cut-steel studs on brass plates with 9K yellow gold (tested) pierced wire tops.
Each earring is 1 3/16” (30mm) high by 9/16” wide (14mm). Each steel dome has about 10 facets.
The marquise shapes have flat tops and curved sides.All the steel ornaments are securely riveted and there is no corrosion.
Backs are smoothly finished.
Cut steel was an alternate to fancy gemstones and in evening affairs, its facets and high polish created lots of brilliant reflections. The majority of cut steel jewelry was made in Great Britain and 9K gold is a typical English standard for the 19th century.
