This hand-crafted Georgian brooch pin has an 18K yellow gold frame around a bevel-edge lapis tablet accented with round white pearls and diamonds. The back has a rose gold frame around a beveled glass which probably originally held hair or a special memento. It has since been soldered closed.
The circa 1800 brooch measures 1 7/16" wide (not including the extended pin), 1 3/16" high and 1/4" thick. The lapis has one gold inclusion and some minor scratches. The diamonds are senaille cut, they resemble rose cuts but the facets are irregular. The pearls have a very slight gray cast and are well matched in size and color. The one near the hinge is set slightly higher than the others but it is not obvious from the front view.
There glass compartment is framed in rose gold; due to the soft solder it cannot be opened. The beveled glass is in very fine condition. The pin stem extends beyond the edge of the brooch as was typical in the period. Total weight is approximately 17.5 grams.
The brooch will be sent by Priority with the signature of the adult recipient required for delivery; ID may be required.
