Antique 10K Rose & Yellow Gold Conch Shell Bacchanalian Maiden Cameo Portrait, Pin & Pendant, 6.0 Grams

This antique carved conch shell cameo portrait of a Bacchanalian maiden pendant is set in a 10K rose gold bezel within a border of 10K yellow gold leaves and has a sturdy V bail. Those females who attended the festivals of Bacchus, the Greek God of wine and agriculture are often depicted with grapes in their hair.

The subject is a woman with an upswept hairstyle, accented with a cluster of grapes (three round grapes at the stem, two beneath them and one below that). She wears a long Victorian style torpedo earring and has a scooped neckline gathered with a knot at the right shoulder. There is a very thin tan line that runs vertically from in front of the earring to the collar--it is an age line, not a crack and cannot be felt.

The setting is 1 3/16" high, just under 1" wide and 3/8" at the deepest. The sides supporting the yellow gold garland are also rose gold. The portrait rests on the palest pink background.

The pin on the back has a lever clasp marked "10K". It snaps securely into place. We believe the cameo was originally a brooch and later converted to a pendant. (Chain shown for illustration only, not included.) There is a tiny notch in the bail which a jeweler could buff out and the entire bail could be removed, if you desire.

Total weight is 6.0 grams. Condition is very fine with no cracks in the cameo and no damage to the very strong, expertly crafted gold setting.
