MOVING SALE!!! We have finally moved. I am now back to unpacking my Mother's doll collection. I will probably be selling dolls for next year or more. I have gotten about half-way through, and honestly, these have been packed and in storage for nearly 20 years. She collected what she grew up with (she passed away a few years ago at the age of 90). Mostly compos, but also a few bisque. She loved Shirley Temple, Effanbee, and Alexander, and babies. Some are excellent, while others are "projects." She bought what she could afford, sometimes keeping dolls on layaway for a year! That being said, here I go...
My Mother was a big fan of Arranbee dolls. Some of her dolls were photographed and shown on several pages in "Arranbee Dolls," by Suzanne DeMillar. My Mother, Dorothy Feingold, appears in the acknowledgments on page 4 in the book.
Near mint to excellent. 1940's ALL ORIGINAL Arranbee 17 inch composition Nancy. First about the doll.... Stringing is pretty good, head a tad wobbly. Marked, "Nancy" on the back of the head, under the wig. Overall composition is near mint on the body. Does have very fine hairline crazing on the face. Coloring is stunning, a nice flesh tone, still has blushed knees. Auburn human hair wig is nice and full, in the original set. Face is stunning. High color. All painted features are prominent, brows, lower lashes, lips, and grey eyeshadow. Has her original teeth and tongue. Eyes open and close with ease. All lashes are intact. Pupils and irises are about half crazed.
She is wearing all original clothing, all in excellent condition with a few small flaws. A similar doll with this exact ensemble is pictured on page 42, "Arranbee Dolls," by Suzanne DeMillar. Pale yellow gown. Taffeta bodice with sheer full organdy skirt accented with rings of silk ribbon. The dress has all the metal snaps intact in the back. Accented with a large taffeta bow. Millinery flowers accent the waist with brown ribbon ties. The dress is excellent, but not mint. There are a few faint stains in the back at the neckline. There are also two very tiny brown spots behind the flower bouquet that accents the waist (hidden by flower accent). A tiny tiny faint spot near the hem in the back, the size of a pea. Her hat is lemon yellow gathered tulle with a flower embellishment. Beneath she is wearing a "onesie" combo slip and panty. The full slip is a "wired" hoop skirt!!! It is fabulous! Attached are lace trimmed pantalets!!!! She is wearing her original socks and metallic gold oilcloth shoes. Both snaps are intact, but the shoe on the left side in the pic has a "tender" strap. I removed them to photograph her, but I would not recommend doing that again for fear of damaging the snaps and straps. All in all, she is wonderful!!! She is a great addition to any Arranbee or fashion doll collection.
