Fully extended the necklace is 16 1/2". It does close with an adjustable J hook. Both the earrings and the necklace have HOBE (with a copyright symbol over the C) marked on them and are in excellent condition. This gorgeous set is perfect for any occasion.
~The Hobé name dates well back to the 1880's, the family originally from Paris, Hobé et Cie, was founded by Jacques Hobé around 1887. The idea being to create jewelry for the middle class & upper classes, using fine jewelry techniques, but using non-precious materials to make jewelry affordable.
Son, Wm. Hobé started the American company, around 1915 and was out of Mt. Vernon, NY. In its heyday, they had showrooms across the country. Hobé jewelry was very popular with its classic designs. They have used many different marks over the years.
The Hobé mark was first used January, 1926. Jewelry created before that time is not hallmarked.
Hobé jewelry was sought after by many movie stars, used in movie productions and used by Florence Ziegfeld for the Ziegfeld Follies. William Hobé, a great designer, worked with Edith Head on many movies. Celebrity patronage added greatly to the popularity.
