Antique Teddy Doll - Looking for a Good Home
Let me preface this by saying that I am not a doll expert. I bought this little gal because she was just so darn cute I couldn't resist. I have spoken to two friends who are both collectors and professional doll dealers, and the jury is split. One, a general doll and toy dealer says these teddy dolls were sometimes made with porcelain doll heads like this and the head may very well be original, while the other, whose specialty is Madame Alexander dolls, says the head is not original, I leave it to you to decide for yourself. I think the hat is definitely original, it is made of the same mohair as the body, and it also fits the head well.
CONDITION is good. The body and head appear to be in good shape. However, there is some glue at the back of the neck that has hardened a portion of the fur, you can see it in the pictures. This prevents me from looking at the neck and shoulder area. I'm not sure why it was applied, perhaps the seam had opened, the shoulders underneath feel solid, I just don't know. Measures approximately 11 1/2" head to toe.
This little teddy girl just oozes charm, displays beautifully, and is looking for a loving home that does not demand perfection. She'll bring you many smiles and promises to be a good companion. Enjoy!
