This sleek design by Bo Borgstrom is set off beautifully by the fine black and clear striations, a sophisticated interplay of organic pattern with streamlined shape. Further, the 'grain' of the color patterning follows in one direction, but looking through the glass, the grain appears to be going in opposite directions, cross hatched from front to back, creating an additional layer of depth within the piece. Particularly well proportioned, a powerful and striking design.
Condition is grand, with some normal wear to the ground bottom. The original label is present, if a bit bedraggled, but clearly identifies the piece, reading: "SVENSK FORM / BO BORGSTROM / SWEDEN / ASEDA" Measures 9 3/8" tall and weighs nearly four pounds, a versatile size which floats on it's solid clear glass base.
Aseda was founded in 1947, and Bo Borgstrom, then a well known Swedish ceramic artist, tried his hand at glass design with his first collection for them in 1961. It was a great success, and the rest, as they say, is history.
A wonderful piece to add to your Mod Glass collection, and as a bonus, it would look great displaying a few sprays of tiny yellow oncidium orchids or blooms of your choice ;-)
