A beautiful, LARGE piece of Royal Worcester in their lovely blush ivory finish covered with hand painted blossoms, finely rendered roses, sweet peas, nasturtiums, forget me nots.
The handle and foot are gilded over a Chinese red which peeks through where the gentle touch of many hands has revealed it after 135 years or so, imparting a sense of history. I love the way the red complements the russet tones of the nasturtiums and the violet in the sweet peas.
This piece is a fabulous large size, the largest of this shape I have seen, it measures 9" tall and has a big bulbous belly and a flat back. It would be appropriate to serve water to guests should you choose … yes, it's that big.
CONDITION is excellent antique, no chips, cracks, or restoration. There is normal wear to the gold, gentle hand wear, not from an abrasive cleaner! In addition to the Registration mark and the Worcester crowned circle, this piece is marked "Patent Metallic," and bears a painter's mark in orange. The Registration Mark dates this piece to 1885, but the "X" under the Worcester circle mark denotes an 1886 manufacture. So perhaps the blank was made in1885, and the decoration done the next year.
Enjoy!
