A beautiful piece of Antique Italian Faience, hand pressed and hand molded sometime between the mid 19th C and early 20th C. This lovely platter displays an exuberant riot of blooms and a perky little bird, with two cartouches around the border featuring super insects. Painted in a fashion known as ‘bozzatura,’ where the color s deftly applied with only a brush.
This plate was created in the Bassano area of northern Italy; the mark created by Gaetano Bonato in 1883. This studio remained active until Bruno Bonato closed it in 1993. Since the plate is not marked “Made in Italy” it mast likely predates the McKinley Tariff Act of 1891, making it more than one hundred thirty years old.
CONDITION - Very nice antique condition with numerous small glaze losses around the perimeter and high points of the molded design that are typical on this type of soft tin glazed pottery. Nothing that compromises it's appeal or beauty, please look at the pictures. Measures a whopping 14 1/4" in diameter. It is a stunning piece. Enjoy!
