Antique Vase by Pointon and Co. - Hand Painted 19th C English Porcelain - image 1 of 10

This lovely antique English porcelain vase was produced by Pointon & Co. during the last quarter of the 19th C.

Confections as sweet as this should come with a warning label … collecting porcelain this charming may be habit forming! From the luscious curves of its oval belly to the unusual square mouth, this vase is a winner, but it's the beautiful little hand painted cartouches that really send it over the top … a golden Cupid's bow in one, and an incredibly detailed, hand painted bucolic river scene in the other. The flowers are picked out in opulent raised gold enameling with raised dots elsewhere in gold and pink. The 'blush' finish and gold trim is reminiscent of Royal Worcester pieces created around the same time, but this beautiful vase was produced by Pointon & Co. during the last quarter of the 19th C. Exquisite.

CONDITION is wonderful with no chips, cracks, or wear to the gold that I can see. Pointon & Co. operated the Norfolk Street Works In Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire from 1883 to 1916. This particular mark dates this piece to 1883 - 1891, the incised numbers are likely a mold mark, and the hand painted initials and number are those of the painter. Measures 5 1/4" in width, 4 3/8" in depth, and 5" in height. The circumference around its bulbous belly is nearly 17", and the mouth opening is 1" square.

A lovely porcelain vase whether you're a seasoned collector or just starting out. This piece would make a beautiful gift if you can bear to part with it. Enjoy!
