An extraordinary burl club. The burl this club was fashioned from is particularly beautiful with sensuous, sinewy folds and crevices in the wood. This club bears the hallmarks of Northern Plains Indians burl clubs with deep patination, wonderful form, and numerous age checks. I believe this is a Native American piece.

Crafted of a single piece of fine grained hardwood, this club shares many characteristics with the Irish Shillelagh. Burls are a naturally occurring deformity, the result of an injury of some kind which caused the wood grain to grow in an irregular way in an attempt to protect itself.

CONDITION is great. The age checks are small and don’t detract from the club’s strength or appearance. There is a small hole drilled at the end of the handle with a cord strung through it that appears to be a relatively recent addition. Measures 23 ⅜” overall, the bulbous head is approximately 4 ½” in diameter. Weighs 1 lb. 11.5 oz.

An arresting, primitive form. A fine collector piece. Enjoy!
