In this dramatic coastal scene, 19th C British watercolorist L Lewis has captured the bustle of a busy fishing port at sunset as the boats return to port. Fishermen haul in their nets under the looming rocky cliffs receding into the evening mist. I’m not sure where this is , Ireland, I think, but if you recognize these dramatic cliffs please shoot me an email. Signed and dated “95” or “96” which would be 1895-6.
CONDITION is excellent antique. The piece has been newly matted and framed under glass with a simple, luxe carved detail. Measures 28 ½” x 16 ½” overall, with a sight size of 20 ¾” x 8 ¾” - Weighs 7 lbs. 9.5 oz.
This is a wonderfully composed and skillfully detailed painting by an artist who has a sure hand; its misty depth is characteristic of L Lewis’ watercolors. Lovely, framed, and ready to hang. Enjoy!
