An appealing New York scene by Fran d’Atria Romano from the old 69th Street Ferry. Romano is a well known NYC artist, a member of the Society of American Graphic Artists, and is known for her ferry views. Romano was chosen and served as a member of the panel of artists which came up with the first columns-of-light memorial just after the 9-11 attacks brought down the World Trade Center buildings - and as a native New Yorker myself, I must say here that that particular installation was one of the most moving tributes imaginable.

This etching of the Old 69th Street Ferry could not be more timely with the very recent re-opening of ferry service originating from the 69th Pier in Brooklyn and ending up in lower Manhattan with six stops in between. Now known as the South Brooklyn Ferry, service from the 69th Street Pier in Brooklyn has been temporarily revived many times since it shut down in 1964 after 52 years of service, but this attempt is part of a general expansion of ferry service in New York intended to ease traffic congestion and provide low cost transportation to under-served neighborhoods.

CONDITION is excellent. The print and the original archival matting with a tasteful black core detail is in fine condition while the metal section frame shows normal wear. Pencil signed, titled, and numbered (10/100) by the artist below the image. Measures 30 ¼” x 24 ¼” overall, with a sight size inside the mat of 24 ¾” x 18 ¾” - Weighs 8 lbs. 15 oz.

This is a serene, lovely image of a peaceful moment amidst the hustle-bustle of the city that never sleeps, the familiar NYC skyline in the background. Hang it where you have a moment to muse. Enjoy!
