This finely detailed bronze sculpture by listed artist Mike McFarland is a portrait of Del E. Webb, a remarkable American builder, developer, and owner of the New York Yankees. Starting with nothing, Webb built a 20th C empire in the American west, his vision helping to create the concept of planned retirement living communities. Sun City, Arizona which opened in 1960 was the first of many planned communities for seniors built by Webb who was also an avid baseball fan and co owner of the New York Yankees from 1945 - 1964.
Mike McFarland is a listed artist best known for his western themed sculptures, and this piece fits right in, his portrait of Webb holding plans for Sun City Arizona and wearing his characteristic hat and glasses exudes a rugged, can-do western spirit.
CONDITION is grand with no problems to report. The bronze has a dusty brown patina (very appropriate), and is mounted on an American black walnut base. Measures 7 ½” tall and the base has a footprint of 6 ⅛” x 5 ⅛” - Weighs 4 lbs. 1 oz.
The perfect size for a desk or cabinet, this fine bronze is a tribute to a great man. Enjoy!
