Classic vintage Borsalino fedora in its original box. Fedoras like this one hold a special place in the world of fashion… from Bogie to Marlena, from Clark Kent to Don Draper, Fedoras are always in style and cool enough to turn up the heat.
This wonderful old dove gray specimen has survived rolled up in its original box all these many years, I don’t believe it has ever been blocked and worn. Soft felt with a 2⅝” raw edge brim, the grosgrain ribbon measures 1⅛” wide. The liner is white silk with an oil cloth (I think) liner tip. Reeded leather sweat band with sweatband bow and original Italian size tag, size 5 (Size Conversion: English 7, North American 7⅛, Metric (cm) 57). I used an antique English brass hat measuring device (everyone has one - right?), and the inner circumference of the leather hat band measures 22 ¼”. The original old box with its quirky shape is a charming plus with great graphics; meant to protect the hat from shop to home, maybe in a suitcase on a voyage, but not really intended for storage between wearings.
CONDITION is NOS Vintage. The felt is in splendid condition. There are a couple of small splits at the top of the oil cloth liner tip, but nothing that would interfere with the look when worn. The ribbon has what look like some minor impressions from being rolled for so many years which should steam out when properly blocked. All-in-all a first rate NOS vintage Borsalino fedora.
Borsalino, still in operation today, has been making these classic hats since1857. The style hasn’t changed much, they got it right the first time. It’s hard to improve on the best. Enjoy!
