A lively, lovely diminutive watercolor by Karl Hahn (American, 1906-1990) of the River Yonne in Burgundy, France with the Cathedrale Saint-Etienne d'Auxerre rising majestically in the background beyond a gracefully arched bridge. I particularly like the movement of the ripples and reflections in the water's surface. It was apparently a sunny spring day and the artist has skillfully captured the shadows of the bell towers falling across the red roof of the cathedral.
Framed in a simple oak frame with a complementary mat under plexiglas (I think), this painting is ready to hang.
CONDITION is excellent. The piece is signed by the listed artist Karl Hahn at the lower right, and titled and dated "Auxerre - June '45" at the lower left. Measures 12 1/2" x 10 1/2" overall, with a sight size inside the mat of 7 1/8" x 6 1/4". Weighs 1 lb. 3 oz.
A pretty little piece with a sunny disposition. Enjoy!
