This handsome bronze figure stands atop its polished stone base, sure footed, in mid aria, gazing upward toward the balcony. The artist has captured the energy and drama of a live performance. The singer's coat flares out behind him, his hands poised expressively, we can only imagine his powerful voice. This bronze has a free and expressive style, a humor and looseness in its rendering that reminds me of some of the portrait sculptures of Honore Daumier.
CONDITION is excellent vintage. The bronze has a dark patina, and the polished stone base appears to be granite. Unsigned. Measures 13 ½” tall including the base, and 11 ½” tall excluding the base. The flare of the figures coat is approximately 7 " wide, and the black stone base measures 5 ½” x 5 ½” x 2". Weighs 15 lbs. 15.5 oz.
This charming piece is perfectly sized for display on a desk, pedestal, or piano. If you have a singer in your life, are a devotee of the opera, or just appreciate fine bronzes, this gentleman may be for you. Enjoy!
