A powerful landscape painting of the Dutch countryside that carries impressionism into the mid 20th C. Naumovic has simplified the landscape, delineating the subject in long, vigorous strokes of pure color which echo the horizontal composition. Clouds move across a dominant bright blue sky propelled by a brisk wind, and the distant hills are punctuated by a lone windmill. You can almost watch the shadows of the clouds as they pass over the land in the thin sunlight.
This painting has a distinct Mid Century vibe, just a little ahead of it’s time as it’s dated ’45. An appealing piece, it would be comfortable in many settings, and although it’s framed in a simple mid 20th C oak moulding and ready to hang, I feel it might benefit from being re-framed.
CONDITION is excellent vintage, framed with a label on the back from a gallery in the Hague. Signed at the lower right "Naumovic '45" Measures 19 5/8" x 14 7/8" overall, with a sight size of 17 3/4" x 13". Weighs 2 lbs. 7 oz.
There's something refreshing and contemporary about the way Naumovic has captured this wind blown landscape. Uncluttered and dynamic. Enjoy!
