This appealing watercolor on paper by the listed 20th C artist Alan Meiers offers a behind-the-scenes view of an old fashioned circus. Featured in the image are a pair of white horses surrounded by tents, wagons and workers, all that's necessary to support the glamour and glitz of the "The Greatest Show On Earth". You can see the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey name on the side of the red wagon.
CONDITION is excellent, with no problems to report save the expected dings to the frame. This painting is beautifully rendered with a sure hand, and signed by the listed artist Alan Meiers as shown. Framed in wood under glass with a double mat and ready to hang. Measures 19 3/4" x 26 1/8" overall, with a sight size of 14" x 20 1/2".
Personal story - When I was a little girl my Dad took me to the circus and the famous clown Emmett Kelly dusted the top of my head to the delight of the audience. WOW! It was a magic moment, and while I never ran off and joined the circus like so many of us imagined we might, I've always loved images like this one that conjure up a bit of that amazing world.
