This antique Toby Jug is known as The Snuff Taker, a popular character from Victorian times. The jug has a deep brown shiny Rockingham treacle glaze and wears the original cover which fits into and forms the crown of its tricorn hat - it's uncommon to find this figure with its original stopper which is usually missing.
CONDITION is excellent antique with no chips cracks or repairs, just a tiny bit of crazing if you look closely - pretty great for an authentic antique piece. There are also some glaze pops, mostly on the left side of the face, which are manufacturing events from the kiln firing and are original to the piece. Toby jugs like this were produced in England from about 1840 until about 1900 by many factories and are most often unsigned like this example. Measures 9 1/8" tall with a bottom diameter of 4 3/4. Weighs 3 lbs. 6.5 oz.
A fine and complete piece to add to a collection or start one. Enjoy!
