Contemporary artist Fosco Fantone has captured the charm of the Tuscan countryside outside Florence in a moody blue landscape. This painting seems simple at first but your eye is drawn in, and the more you look the more you discover. The contours of the land reveal themselves, anchored by the occasional orange tile roof and the unmistakable spike of poplars - then a gentle whisper of pink and green begin to develop, blooming up from the fertile land in the foreground while vineyards stretch out into the distance - as if in a dream.
This painting is beautifully framed under glass (a costly presentation), and is ready to hang on your wall.
As you can see, there is an abundance of writing and sketches on the back, including a large signature, a location and date "Firenze 8/1/'83," the artist's stamp, and something like a dedication perhaps (?) which translates something like " … for drinking all the wine … (crossed out) … do not make me angry (crossed out)" - perhaps this was a gift to a friend.
CONDITION is excellent. The painting is framed with a wide cream and white wooden liner under glass in a rustic gold and dark wooden frame. Measures 23 " x 18 3/4" overall, with a sight size inside the inner wooden liner of 15 1/8" x 11 1/4". Weighs 5 lbs. 9 oz.
A very traditional view of the Tuscan hills and vineyards with a modern twist. Enjoy!
