An exquisite Art Nouveau bronze depicting a young woman with garlands in her hair by listed Italian sculptor Antonio Ugo (1870 - 1956). A classic beauty, eyes downcast, Ugo has captured an air of innocence. Her garlands tumbling free, a hallmark of Art Nouveau, add a note of disheveled, unselfconscious charm. She is mounted on an orange marble plinth which harmonizes nicely with the warm tones of the deeply patinated bronze. A gorgeous piece, beautifully presented.
CONDITION is excellent antique. I see no exceptions to the bronze. There are a few inconsequential 'nibbles' at the bottom edge of the marble base, mentioned only for accuracy. Signed "Ugo" in the bronze at the back of the left sleeve. This piece stands 8 7/8" overall and the footprint of the base is 10 5/8" x 4 5/8" overall. The marble base is 7/8" thick. Weighs 9 lbs. 1.5 oz.
Bronzes as lovely as this don't come along every day. Enjoy!
