An intriguing drawing which creates an enigmatic narrative with great economy and style, leaving just enough mystery to engage the viewer's imagination. The artist has captured the body language of his subjects with remarkable honesty, revealing something universal about the mating habits of us humans, the behavior is very well observed and the strong narrative suggests that this may be an illustration. All attention is focused on the graceful figure of the woman, directing the viewers eye through the piece. The young man slouches nonchalantly trying hard to look casual, and the three sitting men turn their heads from us to watch as well.
CONDITION is great. Signed and dated by the artist "J. Hausmann (or J. Bausmann) '?4". I can't quite make out the decade, the costumes suggest an early 20th C date, but you'll have to judge for yourself. Framed as I found it. Measures 18" x 22" overall, with the sight size of the drawing inside the double mat measuring 8" x 10 1/2".
An engaging drawing that will fuel your imagination. Enjoy!
