A lovely watercolor painting of the mountainous ridge line of Leather Tor Dartmoor in southwestern Britain. Can't you just imagine a painter hiking Dartmoor with an easel until coming upon this extraordinary view? Almost certainly a Plein Air painting, done on site, this piece really captures the subtle colors of the rocks and foliage surrounded by the the misty blue of the receding peaks of the Tors. I love the flock of birds in the upper left corner, and you can see sheep tended by a shepherd and sheep dog on a distant slope. Peaceful. Moving.
CONDITION is very nice. Titled and signed at the lower right. There are two tiny spots of foxing (I think) that are barely noticeable in the sky on the right hand side, and the gold wooden molding shows normal wear. Measures 18 1/2" x 23 1/2" overall, with the sight size inside the double mat measuring 9 1/4" x 14 1/4.
This lovely painting may make you yearn to walk Dartmoor yourself, wouldn't it be fun? Well, until then you can visit this beautiful view anytime you like. Enjoy!
