This engaging 18th C engraving by Domenico Cunego shows a pair of lovers, the attraction is palpable, magnetic, and powerful. The viewer is drawn into that dreamy moment just before a kiss.
This plate was part of the Schola Italica Picturae, published by Gavin Hamilton in London in 1773, the engraver was Domenico Cunego. The original Renaissance painting by Giorgione (Giorgio Da Castelfranco 1477 - 1510) is in The Borghese Collection in Rome.
CONDITION is great. The image is crisp with the plate mark visible inside the lovely French mat. Beautifully framed in a 20th C gilded wooden frame. Measures 18 5/8" x 14 1/2" overall, with a sight size of 9 3/4" x 7". Weighs 3 lbs. 8 oz.
Clothes and hairstyles may have changed since Renaissance times, but lovers are always lovers. 50 shades of grey aren't nearly enough. Enjoy!
