Ringy-ding... ringy-dingy... it's for you! This early Valentine must have been the height of modernity and sophistication, featuring that electric invention that was catching on all over, the 'telephone'. Wires that carried a lover's whisper for miles... amazing!
Fantastic heart shaped Valentine with pretty scalloped edges and a little wood grained telephone featuring real wooden mouth and ear pieces. This phone is flanked by a pair of scrap cupids mounted on wires holding garlands of flowers, above is a tiny red heart scrap inscribed "Love" and there is an old silk ribbon from which to hang this pretty little heart. Hanging below is a tiny book entitled "Cupid's Messages" that opens to a poem inside.
"Hello! Hello!!
Hurry up Central!
Don't be so slow!
I'm all a flutter,
my heart's aglow.
Hello!
You say you love me,
do I love you?
Yes-Yes,
You ask, whether I
will ever be true:
Yes-Yes,
I dote on your words,
"I love you alone"
whether whispered in ear,
or heard on the 'phone."
Completely, totally, utterly, thoroughly, extremely, entirely, absolutely, perfectly Charming... with a capital "C"!
CONDITION is good. One of the cupids is missing a foot, and the edges have minimal wear. But really nothing to detract from this overwhelmingly adorable piece.
Not too flowery, not too brash, but a perfect mixture of both... just right, with a bit of old fashioned thrown in.
