This fantastical painting conjures the faeries and princesses of mythical times. A delightful, original watercolor and gouache after Friedrich August von Kaulbach ( 1850 - 1920 ) which will capture your imagination and run away with your heart.
The crescent moon has always been a symbol of new beginnings, a time for dreams to become reality... and it is as though the ethereal 'fairy' woman strewing her stars is sowing the seeds of dreams to take root and form.
CONDITION is excellent antique, the piece is in its original frame, a lovely wooden molding with Renaissance design elements which has been beautifully preserved. Painted on artist's board, the original dust cover was brittle and barely there when I got this piece. I had this painting re-matted with new archival materials and a black dust cover, and have preserved the original framer's gallery stamp from the old dust cover for you. Unsigned. Measures 24 1/2" x 19 1/4" overall, with a sight size of 17 1/2" x 12 3/8".
We humans have always wondered where our dreams come from, and what a lovely, romantic notion that they are delivered from the hand of a beautiful fairy princess gliding through the night sky on a crescent moon. Sweet dreams.
