This unusual piece is a curiosity for Royal Doulton which produced a small series of these quirky pieces for the Scholl Company in the 1920's and 1930's, with this particular piece dating to 1936. Its purpose was to sit on a pharmacy counter and demonstrate the proper use of Zino Pads and their application for the relief of corns, bunions, and calluses. Clearly marked on the bottom with the Royal Doulton mark, and also with cleaning instructions (in a wonderful old font).
CONDITION is great with no chips or losses. There is some minor crazing (not everywhere), with one tight line on the right front corner that may be just in the glaze (I'm not sure), but it does not appear to extend into the body and does not detract. The footprint measures 9 1/4" x 4 5/8", the piece stands 7 1/2" tall, and weighs a little over four pounds.
This is a fun piece and an uncommon piece of Royal Doulton, with crossover appeal to many areas of collecting - Royal Doulton, advertising, medical paraphernalia - the list goes on. It oozes the 20th C "doctors know best" vibe. I'm weakening - buy it quick before it ends up in my bathroom - lol.
