Monumental advertising poster for the Frazer Motor Car. The image is awe inspiring, a beautiful, new red Frazer emerges glowing and perfect from a cellophane wrap, it's white walls and chrome gleaming. The Fashion Academy of New York awarded the Frazer the Gold Medal for design achievement, and looking at this spectacular image it's easy to see why. Fantastic... and over five feet long!
Frazers were the flagship, high end car of the Kaiser-Frazer Corporation, and were produced for a few short years just after World War Two (1946 - 1952) when a wonderful spirit of can-do optimism grabbed hold of Americans returning from overseas, and the USA led the world in industrial innovation and production. Then abruptly in 1952, despite the success of the Frazer, the parent corporation abandoned production in favor of the more economical lower end Kaiser model, and was out of business altogether by 1956.
I would guess this poster was used in a dealership to promote the new year's model. 1947 was only the second year of production and I believe that this poster shows a Frazer Manhattan, the luxury top-of-the-line model. And does it ever make a dramatic, arresting image... WOW! Please note that the words "protected Image" appear only on my photograph, they are not on the poster.
CONDITION is remarkably good, this poster has never been folded. There are small holes and tiny rips from tacks at the corners and at the center of the sides from being hung over the years, they are on the border and do not interfere with the image. I used these already existing holes to briefly hang it for my photography. There is one small (approximately 1/4") puncture above the steering wheel with no loss of the colored surface of the paper (last photograph). This would be an easy fix with a bit of archival material on the back, but is not really necessary as I didn't even notice it until I hung the piece to photograph. Measures 41 1/2" x 61" overall.
This is a knockout of a piece, and quite rare, an original, not a copy or reproduction. It would make a glorious addition to a collector's home, office, or garage, or would be wonderful in a vintage themed restaurant or club. Treat yourself or gift someone special. A fabulous piece of authentic Americana.
