A wonderful pair of antique French Louis XVI style side chairs. Each of these lovely chairs has two elegant shaped back splats with a center carved foliate rosette, the upper one surmounted by an intricately carved ribbon bow. The back uprights are topped with lovely carved finials and divided by foliate rosettes where the lower back-splat attaches. The delicately turned, tapered and fluted legs are joined by fancy turned stretchers. Likely created late 19th C or early 20th C. The seats are upholstered. The silver and gold painted finish is distressed in that beautiful 'shabby' way, a perfect state of romantic decay.
CONDITION is great, these chairs are sound and ready to go with wear to the carving and paint... please look at the pictures. There is a spot on the upholstery of one chair (visible in the photos) which I have not tried to remove; the fabric is in strong and serviceable condition. Remarkably, there are no breaks or repairs. These chairs are surprisingly sturdy with no wobble that I can detect despite their delicate appearance. Each measures 33 3/4" to the top of the bow on the rail, and 18" to the top of the seat. The seat measures 16" deep and 16 1/4" wide at the front.
These are perfect for the boudoir or romantic parlor, but they will add a touch of elegance and charm to any room. Enjoy!
