Early 20th C Painting of Grenadier Parade - Oil on Canvas
Everybody loves a parade! This early 20th C painting catches a parade of Grenadiers in mid stride, wearing their tall 'bear skins' while accompanying a magnificent touring car in the dappled sunlight of springtime. There are clearly a dignitaries in the car, all part of the parade. Nobody does pomp and tradition like the British, you can almost hear the stirring marching band.
CONDITION is grand, the painting is in great shape. It is framed with simple wooden strips (1 1/2" deep x 1/4" on the face) that are painted black on the edges and gold (darkened from age) on the front; they are mitered at the corners and stand proud of the canvas by about 3/8". Unsigned. Measures 18 1/2" x 14 3/4" overall, with a sight size of 18" x 14".
This is a nicely rendered and composed canvas that speaks of tradition and history... all white gloves, polished brass buttons, and great big walrus' mustaches. Straight from the era of Downton Abbey. Enjoy!
