An outstanding, large horseshoe brooch with the most beautifully colored coral... not quite pink, but not really orange either... maybe Sciacca or perhaps what the Italians call Angel Skin which is a little darker than what most think of as Angelskin Coral today. At any rate, there are twenty-one simply lovely, hand carved beads with a charming cushion shape, each attached to the horseshoe framework by means of little posts.
Some say that the horseshoe brooch is associated with Edward Prince of Wales who became King Edward VII, and whom the Edwardian era was named after. And indeed, e was a notorious playboy and an avid horseman during the time that this brooch was produced.
CONDITION is as you see it, the gorgeous coral beads are all original and intact, and the clasp and pin are original. The brass horseshoe framework has little gilding left, but has darkened down and displays a lovely aged patina. Measures 1 13/16" across at the widest point and 2 3/16" long.
This would look fabulous on a lapel, it would contrast beautifully with navy, black, or forrest green, but imagine how outrageous it would look on a red hat... and I know there are a lot of 'you 'red hat' ladies out there. Wear the open end of the horseshoe up to catch all the luck! Enjoy!
