Here's an Superb example of World Class Hopi Overlay. This Handsome Ram is executed in Heavy Sterling Silver. The Over Lay is Deep. The Saw Work is Flawless, and the Chisel Work is Impeccable. This Exquisite Buckle could only have hand crafted by an accomplished master. We believe that master to be Clarence Lomayestewa. Bille Hougart documents in his Hallmarks book that Mr. Lomayestewa did use CL initials for his hallmark. Schaaf documents in his A-L book that Clarence is noted for his "textured backgrounds". Clarence was taught his skills by none other than Paul Saufkie, and Fred Kabotie. This Wonderful Buckle is hallmarked CL, and stamped Sterling.
Nice Size, this Masterpiece measures 3" x 1 7/8". It weighs a substantial 42.2 grams. About 1 1/3 oz, Of course, we always like to see a hinged buckle finding. It allows the buckle to lay flat and attractively against the stomach.
Condition is Vintage Excellent.
