Hopi Mudhead Kachina – Sterling Silver Overlay – Pin Brooch - Signed
Here's a Skillfully Hand Wrought Sterling Silver Pin Brooch. This Traditional Hopi overlay piece depicts a Mudhead Kachina, or Koyemsi. In Hopi Ceremonies, the Mudhead functions as a clown, but during the Kwiyamuya season, they function as chiefs. This is beautifully executed work of art. The saw work is smooth and even, and small tubes of silver were applied to the eyes and mouth for a spooky, 3-dimensional look. It is signed MS, which we at first thought would be Michael, or Mitchell Sockyma. We're not certain of this, however. It was tested for Sterling Silver.
This Delightful pin measure 2 3/16" tall x 1". It weighs 6.9 grams
Condition is Vintage Excellent and Unpolished.
