This is a quite lovely engraved coin silver hanging mustard spoon which dates to circa 1821.
This is the year that Monroe was president of the US, Spain ceded Florida to the United States, Missouri was admitted as the 24th US state, the Saturday Evening Post published its first edition, and this spoon was made by J. Peters of Philadelphia!
Pre Civil War era silver is usually very simple in design. This spoon was engraved at the top bend which sets it apart from the more commonplace coin silver pieces you often see. The decorative top shows itself beautifully when hung off the side of a container.
6.25" (15.8cm) long
Lay-a-Way is always available!
