This one-of-a-kind garnet ring is really lovely. The design is delicate and elegant.
It has 2 hallmarks (bottom outside shank) that we just can't make out. The ring is made of very soft gold that tests as 20kt.
There are 3 garnets total....the large central one is a faceted square cut 5 x 5 mm. The 2 smaller ones are rounds and 2mm.
The ring is in its original box from the Maine Jeweler "Springer's". Springer's Jewelers was established in 1870 by George T. Springer in nearby Saccarappa (now Westbrook, Maine) offering a wide range of optical goods, stationery, and artists materials, "fancy goods," and of course, fine jewelry. Around 1900 the store was purchased by E. Beaulieu and expanded eventually to 3 locations.
The box is from an era when boxes were a treasure themselves....this one is a leather exterior w/ velvet and satin interior.
Based on clues from the box and the design styling of the ring, we'd guesstimate the age to be circa 1890-1900 (before Springer's expanded...Portland Maine being their original location and the only one mentioned on the box)
The ring measures 1.7cm (just shy of 3.4 inches) Weight: 1.9g
