Connoisseurs and lovers of Dresden Porcelain continue to search out the renowned blue underglaze trademark "SP", knowing well that it means quality! For generations of porcelain modelers and painters since the turn of the century, this trademark has testified to a product of the very highest quality.
Thanks to the excellent quality of the products, the Antique Shop and Porcelain Decorating Studio of Carl Thieme has continued and is now known as the Dresden Porcelain Manufactory. As in the early days, the company continues to use every possible means to ensure the training of talented painters, embossers and modelers who are able to maintain the Manufactory's traditions of hand-made perforations and imaginative floral decoration, valuable embossment work and luxuriant painting.
The Thieme, now Dresden Porcelain, Manufactory is still located in Dresden, Germany, but now is directly adjacent to the Dresden Palace. What an atmosphere for the appreciation of porcelain!
We are pleased to own a copy of their current catalogue and found this reticulated, three-sided bowl held by the darling trio of putti on page 64 of the catalogue. We have to say, its sheer pleasure to slowly turn each page of this book! We are further pleased to offer this same beautiful bowl at considerably less than their 2009 price listing of $2001.00. What a surprise when we realized it was the same item. When you consider all the hand work (no machines!)....really...all the work is still a labor of love and not relegated to a machine to churn out mass-produced copies that receive a touch of colour here and there!
No nicks, chips or repairs....not even any nipped toes or fingers!
7" diameter on the bowl - excluding the putti (17.8 cm) putti are 3 7/8" tall (8.8 cm)
