Graceful and Delicate....and paper thin!
This cup and saucer weigh very little! The porcelain is very fine grained and the body is extremely translucent! The cup sides are fluted as is the rim of the saucer. Petite, outlined flowers trail 'round the rim of the saucer and the side of the cup.....in the case of the saucer they reach toward the light, bright center. The flowers and edges are embellished lavishly in shiny gold.
Please look at all the photos....we took some with a back light to give you an idea of the near transparency.
There are no marks on the bases, so we cannot attribute this work of art to a particular maker, but we feel sure that it was created in the very early 1800's if not a tad earlier.
This is just not the "common" cup and saucer you ordinarily see.
A remarkable offering!
