These roses are just lovely and the amateur artist (unsigned)wasn't afraid of using colour! The tones chosen are delightful and this little round box just sings out! A "must have" for the collector of hand painted roses. The artist didn't stop at the top half of this box, but continued the pattern (leaves and another rose) to the bottom. The rose centers and leaves are very realistically painted.
There is one flaw, quite small and we almost didn't notice it ourselves. When you insert your finger in the top of the receiver to remove the top, you will notice one small chip which a former owner glued back in place. It is not noticeable when closed, nor when you look at it from the outer edge. Only seen (When looking for it) from the inside. This could be easily restored by an expert, especially because it does not involve any of the painted surfaces!
The porcelain blank has a William Guerin Mark #3 in green underglaze factory mark between 1900-32.
A beautiful and exquisite item with a very useful life left, as a hair receiver, trinket box or object of adoration and beauty!
