A large hand painted Dresden soup tureen is a very rare item to find!
This rare serving piece has been meticulously hand painted with little dutsche blumen, or Dresden flowers. The brilliantly coloured flowers are painted and shaded with strong contrasts, even though the actual paintings are delicate and dainty. Along each long side is a central motif of flowers surrounded by scattered sprays. The edges have been laboriously hand painted with gold in a scallop design while the dish handles are decorated in gold gilt to resemble fruit tree branches. The cover boasts a plump plum for a handle!
A large item like this required many hours to produce. Only the best artists were employed to create items like this. It is certainly the type item you would find on the shelf of a connoisseur! Antique and perfect. That's what we love to offer and this certainly fits.
This came from the Richard Klemm studio in Dresden Germany (according to the marks) circa 1891-1914. There is also an overglaze mark that reads "Germany". The country of origin mark was required by the US Tariff Act in 1891.
Large serving pieces like this are increasingly difficult to find. We couldn't find one on the popular replacement site. We maintain an account with the current Thieme company in Germany and according to their current catalogue, a vegetable server is not available (we can always have them check their molds if one wants one, however) but a similar covered soup tureen is, at the cost of $3152 US.
Connoisseurs and lovers of antique and vintage Dresden porcelain will appreciate this difficult to acquire piece!
No hairlines or repairs. A very VERY small chip to the base. Gilding is bright and unworn.
