Produced by British Anchor Pottery Co of Stoke-on-Trent, England for Rowland & Marsellus. There is a third mark which is unknown to us and likely the Boston retailer.
R&M Co were importers, wholesalers and retailers, especially of souvenir or commemorative wares. They operated out of New York and flourished around 1893 through 1938. This appears to be one of the earlier impressions.
This plate depicts a scene of Molly Pitcher at the Battle of Monmouth, June 28th 1778. Its a transfer made from a copper plate process. Lovely intense blues.
No chips, cracks or hairlines. Light crazing in the glaze on back (no discolouration).
10" diameter (dinner plate size)
We have several more Staffordshire Commoratives made for the American market.
