Art Nouveau circa 1890s-1900 Brass Whiplash design picture frame marked DRGM. Measures approximately 7 1/2" x 10 1/4" overall; photo/glass area approximately 4 3/8" x 6 3/4". Originally held a Cabinet card photograph. Marked "DRGM" on the back right above the easel---hard to see but there---see photos. D.R.G.M. is a German registry mark used 1891-1949. Back slides in, similar to French construction, but the easel is different. Original lacquer spots on the back. Whiplash design shows tremendous hand finishing, even though this is a factory frame. Flattened brass swirls around the frame in an organic, flowing design typical of the Art Nouveau period. A heavy, quality frame; weighs over 13 ounces with glass, etc.
