19th Century French Bronze and Enamel Antique Picture Frame. Measures approximately 3 1/4" x 5" overall; photo/glass area approximately 2 1/2" x 3 7/8"; oval opening, measured from the front approximately 2+" x 3 1/4+". Slide-in channel on the back is typical of French manufacture. Original back, easel, and ring for hanging. Heavy for its size--a quality frame with 6 colors of enamel. Enamel is white, green, light and dark blue, red, and black. There is a tiny area of enamel loss in the light blue [lower right]. Dates circa 1870s--originally held a CDV or Carte-de-visite photograph, but the adorable baby photo is included. Excellent quality. Hold the frame face down with one hand and gently but firmly hold the easel to slide the back out to insert your own photo. [Please notice that the blue enamel design on each side of the upper portion of the frame varies slightly].
