Spandrel shaped [oval within rectangle] Antique frame is brass with its original gold-plated finish intact; a warm patina. Although most of the frames with slide-in backs and urn shaped easels are French, this one bears an oval mark with "Marion London" inside, most probably the name of the retailer. It is heavy for its size, and has quality details like a beveled edge all around the crenelated corners, and the oval opening. The lady inside is a print highlighted in watercolor, beautifully done. It maintains its original ring for hanging. The frame measures approximately 3 1/2" X 4" high overall, the oval opening is approximately 2 1/8" X 2 11/16" [measured from the front], and the slide-in back measures approximately 2 3/4" X 3 1/4". The number "8" is incised inside the frame and inside the back. Please see the photos-there is a tiny piece of the lower left corner on the leg of the easel that is worn down. Some wear to the finish on the back--see photos, but in very good condition for a frame that is over 125 years old!
