Copper charger marked ORIGINAL DESIGN in a circle and signed REBAJES underneath. Measures approximately 11 3/4" in diameter. Original warm copper patina with hammer marks clearly showing. Beautifully handmade with two different hammered patterns rising outwards to a double curved edge. Darker highlights still visible---has not been polished. Francisco Rebajes started selling his hand-made metal sculptures in NYC in the 1940s, then opened a shop in the Village and later one on Park Avenue and E. 37th St in the early 1950s. This particular signature is thought to be an earlier mark. If you turn it over it is slightly dome-shaped, and there is an approximately 3 1/2" round slightly flattened base. There are scratches, small dings, etc. commensurate with age and use. A wonderful example of Rebajes famous work in copper. Weighs over one pound.
