Antique Photo Frame circa 1890s-1915 with Foliate Garland along the top border as well as a Palmate center decoration; scrolls and flowers above that. Measures approximately 4 1/2" X 7" overall; photo/glass area approximately 3 7/8" X 5 3/8". Amazingly, it retains its original convex [bowed outward] glass, not usually found on rectangular frames. Although this frame has a definite French flair, it is marked on the brass easel "Abraham & Straus Made in U.S.A.", so this is an American made frame! Abraham and Straus were retailers founded in 1865, [in 1929 became part of Federated Dept Stores] and this frame was made for them to sell in their stores. They also imported French frames and put their name on them--they were not manufacturers. The metal frame is a coppery [pinkish tone] color; you can see the original gold-plating still visible inside [see photos]; unfortunately the gold-plating is no longer on the frame. The original hinged top and ring are on the "box" back. Intricate details on the border, drapery and crest designs make this a great looking frame. Value priced at $225.00.
